Construction update (as of March 29, 2018)

• Arena progress – Work on the arena are continuing. Winter conditions have had varied effects on progress. A large amount of the structural steel is now in place and the building is starting to take shape. Concrete forming for bleacher seating at the north end of the building is underway. Mechanical and electrical site works are also continuing to progress. Temporary fire routes/access for the existing arena are in place, which will allow for construction of the arena addition to proceed while the existing arena continues to operate.
• Park progress – Mixing and screening topsoil for the sports fields is complete.  Irrigation lines and sod have been installed at the soccer field. All sports field lighting is in place. Most park works were paused with the colder temperatures. Some underground servicing work has been performed over the winter, including the completion of all sports field subdrains. Playground equipment is currently being manufactured offsite. With the thawing and drying out of the site, an increase in park construction activity will begin in the spring.

 

Exciting changes are coming to David Hamilton Park and Ed Sackfield Arena!

David Hamilton Park

We’re redeveloping David Hamilton Park, which was originally built in 1987. The modernized park will include new play areas, a splash pad, multi-use courts, new walkways, seating, lighting and sports facility upgrades.

Ed Sackfield Arena and Fitness Studio

We’re also expanding Ed Sackfield Arena. The new wing will include an NHL-sized ice pad, a new fitness studio and aerobics room, new change rooms and a walking track.

Arena programming is expected to continue during construction. User groups, including fitness studio members, will be notified of any service disruptions in advance.

Construction of the park and arena is scheduled to begin in March 2017 and be completed by 2018.

As a measure of safety, portions of the site and park will be closed and/or fenced off during construction. All residents, park and arena users are asked to avoid entering construction areas.
